KOREA FOREIGN REGISTRATION CARD Better know as your Alien Registration card
After attaining your work visa and arriving in Korea you have 90 days to obtain a Foreign Registration Card,
or Alien Registration Card. If you do not obtain this card within 90 days, a fine will have to be paid.
It is suggested to receive the card as soon as possible. You will need to visit the local immigration office,
and bring the following documents for the process:
1. Passport and copy of passport 2. One passport size photo 3. Your employer will provide you with their school’'s legal registration document(s). (copy) Take note of the name of the school (English is fine) and the phone number. 4. A MEDICAL CHECK report from a designated hospital in Korea (usually with official stamp) 5. New as of 2010, an (appostilled) and notarized (certified true copy) of your University degree. 6. Go to immigration and complete the application form. (Request for Alien Registration) 7. The fee of 10 000 won (stamp) which in most (or all) immigration offices is paid at a separate counter, other than where you hand in the application for your alien card. 8. You may want to pay a separate fee to have your alien card and passport mailed to you, which is usually paid at the same counter as the 10 000 won fee, or you can come back to pick these items up in person.
Do not worry about temporarily leaving your passport. This process has been ongoing and repeated daily for several years. The process is relatively quick, taking approximately 10 business days.
