KOREA BORYEONG MUD FESTIVAL

The Boryeong Mud Festival is an annual festival which takes place during the summer, usually mid or late July, in Boryeong, South Korea. The first Mud Festival was staged in 1998 and, by 2007, the festival attracted 2.2 million visitors to Boryeong.

The mud is dug up near Boryeong, trucked to the Daecheon beach area, and dumped at a 'Mud Experience Land'. The mud is considered rich in minerals and used to manufacture skin beauty products, as well as provide an excellent local economy boost each year from the mud festival.

Other than mud related events, there are some events that are prepared for pure fun. Celebrities from time to time come and make the atmosphere of the festival hotter. Also, firework performances are prepared. For people who are exhausted from playing, there is a picture museum to relax. Moreover, people can go to the health care center, where they have different kinds of massages and acupuncture Mud parade, yacht parade, skin beauty festival, world dance stage, Korean traditional song concert, B-body concert, Hip hop & Global Rave Party, and Rock Festivals are all the other events tourists can go to. Enjoy washing off in the bath house. There are plenty of half-descent price motels and hotels near the festival and beach area.

Nearby Attractions: Boryeong is surrounded by nature, so there are many places to visit other than the Mud Festival. For instance, there are over 16 different mountains tourists can visit and climb. The closest place to go near the Mud Festival is the coal museum. For tourists who are tired of playing with mud, it would be nice to visit some of the museums surrounding the area, and this coal museum would be a nice place to start. Also, there is Boryeong Energy World, a museum which talks about the energy sources in Korea, specifically Boryeong. Other than museums, there are many traditional remains as well.
