ACCOMMODATIONS IN KOREA

Villas: Most ESL teachers tend to stay in villas, a one-room studio style apartment. These are usually 5-10 story buildings, old and new, seen througout every city in Korea. Most schools provide ESL teachers with a partially furnished one-room studio apartment, or offer monthly housing allowance to put towards your own apartment. Larger apartments are usually provided for couples or families.

Apartments: In Korea apartments usually refer to the larger and much taller apartment buildings. The area of an apartment is usually measured by "pyeong" (1 pyeong = 3.3 sq. meters = 35 sq. feet) the Korean unit for area. Pictured here are the newer and larger apartment buildings.

Office Tels: Unlike other offices, office tels are usually furnished with most appliances such as a washer, refrigerator, gas range and sometimes even an oven. It looks much like a small apartment, with a living room as well. It's main function is as an elaborate office. ESL teachers do not usually stay in office tells.

Houses:
Usually only married ESL teachers rent or buy a house in Korea. There are several different areas throughout Korean cities designated for housing. Most have a traditional Asian look or are a plain square brick style. You can even find the occasional western style house.
